The United States brokered an agreement to extend the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon by 45 days. Both countries are scheduled to resume negotiations in early June for discussions towards peace. However, significant differences in positions between the two sides remain, making permanent ceasefire and Israeli troop withdrawal discussions challenging.
