The South Korean government is reviewing the U.S.-proposed ‘Maritime Freedom Initiative’ and plans to prioritize international cooperation to ensure the safety of South Korean ships and crew in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the HMM Munna Ho attack, South Korea is coordinating with the UAE to support the safety of seafarers and is expected to play a larger diplomatic role depending on its acceptance of the U.S.-led initiative.
