Rear Admiral Akbarzadeh announced that Iran has redefined the operational boundaries of the Strait of Hormuz, expanding it to a 500-kilometer crescent from Jask and Sirik to beyond Qeshm Island and Greater Tunb. This expansion comes amid escalating tensions with the US, following the US blockade of Iranian vessels and ports, which Iran condemns as piracy. Iran has declared the only safe route through the strait will be designated by the Islamic Republic and warned of a ‘decisive response’ to any deviating vessels.
