US sanctions Iraqi deputy oil minister over support to Iran

The United States has sanctioned an Iraqi deputy oil minister over allegations of supporting Iran through oil trade. This action reflects heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US pressing Iraq’s new leadership to reduce cooperation with Iranian-linked groups.
