The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a warning to shipping companies and financial institutions paying transit fees through the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the risk of sanctions. US citizens, as well as non-US companies and individuals, could be subject to sanctions if they participate in payments related to the Iranian government or the IRGC.
